The Floripesfera Biennial - I Transatlantic Cultural Biennial will take place from 14 August to 14 September 2019, in the Príncipe’s Island (a Biosphere Reserve since 2012 and it's cultural heritage is under proposal for the classification, by UNESCO, as Intangible Heritage of Humanity). 

This initiative is in the spirit of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003), which emphasized its importance as a source of cultural diversity and a guarantee of sustainable development, in accordance with the 1989 UNESCO recommendation about safeguarding traditional and popular culture, which is also in line with the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity (2001) and the Istanbul Declaration (2002).

The Mus-E STP Transform'Arte (São Tomé and Príncipe's cultural association – which coordinates the event) formalized an invitation, to the Legends & Biodiversity - Príncipe’s Island project biologists team, to participate in the event with an artistic and scientific multidisciplinary project, which is expected to be developed between March 2019 and April 2020.

GOALS

Wishing to contribute to the enlargement and dissemination of knowledge about the native fauna and flora, the search of new perspectives on local biodiversity, the capacitation of local human resources and the stimulation of curiosity and creativity, this project proposes, through the interception among oral tradition, science, and artistic exploration, an overview of the biological wealth of the Príncipe’s Island.

The material product of the project's accomplishment will include:

(1) The edition of two books

(2) The design of a thematic game

(3) The edition of a digital catalogue

(4) The production of a documentary, and

(5) The display of an exhibition.
